황간향교 앞에 있는 이 누각은 자연경관을 즐기던 곳으로，조션 태조 2년(1393)에 황간 현감 하첨이 지었다。임진왜란1592 때 불탔으나 새로 짓고 여러 차례 보수했다，가학루라는 이름은 경상도 관찰사 남재가 마치 학이 바람을 타고 떠다니는 듯하다 해서 지은 것이다. 앞면 4칸 옆면 4칸 규모의 1 층 건물이며, 지붕 옆면이 여덟 팔八자 모양인 팔작지붕집이다. 기둥과 난간만 있어 사방이 시원하게 탁 트여 있다.

Gahangnu Pavilion was built in front of Hwangganhyanggyo Local Confucian School by Ha Cheom, a county magistrate of Hwanggan, an 1393 (the 2nd year of the reign of King Taejo of the Joseon Dynasty), so he could enjoy the beautiful natural surroundings.

It was destroyed and rebuilt during the Japanese invasion of 1592, and was repaired several times in the ensuing period、The name Gahangnu, which literally means "a crane flying on a breeze," was given by a governor of Gyeongsang-do named Nam Jae. The building with a hipped-and-gabled roof measures four kan (a unit of measurement referring to the distance between two columns) at the front and four kan at the sides' and only has columns and railings, without walls.
